Abstract

The research paper focused on the working, availability facilities, and problems faced by teachers and students in conduct of science experiments in the laboratories of the government secondary schools of District Hyderabad, All government secondary schools of District Hyderabad, their teachers, students, and head-teachers formed the population of the study. For the sampling, the random technique was used to select the sample. Four schools (2 male and 2 female) were selected for the study in phase 1. In phase 2, four science teachers, and ten science students were randomly selected from each of the sampled schools. Headmasters and ten lab assistants were also included in the sample. The research tools questionnaire, interview protocol, and observation checklist were used for data collection. For data analysis, quantitative and qualitative methods were used. Study found that in most of the schools' science laboratories were not fully functional and were in bad condition, there was funds shortage to purchase science apparatus, most of the teachers were not able to get conduct practical, there was a shortage of technical staff in the science labs of rural areas¡¯ schools. The main recommendations of the study were science teachers and lab staff should be provided trainings related to conduct of science practical, sufficient funds should be allocated for buying science apparatus for labs, technical staff should be recruited for science labs, science exhibitions should be arranged regularly in and science labs should be equipped with computers, internet, and multimedia projects for up-grading science labs in government schools.
