Abstract

This study aimed to identify the level of application of transformational, transactional, participative, and collaborative leadership styles and the level of decision-making quality at the University of Hail. It also examined the effect of leadership styles on decision-making quality and identified the leadership style most strongly associated with improving decision-making quality. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical correlational approach, using a questionnaire administered to 366 respondents. The results showed that the overall application of leadership styles was very high, with transformational leadership ranking first, followed by transactional, collaborative, and participative leadership. The overall level of decision-making quality was also very high. Problem diagnosis ranked first, followed by generation of alternatives, evaluation of alternatives and selection of the most appropriate alternative, and information collection and analysis. The findings further indicated a positive and statistically significant effect of the four leadership styles on decision-making quality. The study recommends strengthening effective leadership practices, developing employees capabilities through continuous training, improving incentive and reward systems, enhancing employee participation in problem-solving and decision-making, developing mechanisms for collecting and analyzing accurate information, using decision-support systems, and adopting clear criteria for generating, evaluating, and selecting alternatives.
