This paper proposes a clustering method using Cuckoo algorithm to increase the lifetime of wireless ad-hoc networks. The proposed algorithm selects cluster heads based on path length energy. We also propose another algorithm for the proper distribution of selected cluster heads. The second algorithm randomly selects the best cluster head and prevents the frequent selection of one node as the best cluster head which would result in the waste of energy and early death of cluster heads. We compared the first method with LEACH, FSCA, GSAGA and CORDF in terms of the first dead node, energy consumption, the number of live and dead nodes, computation volume, and clustering indices. The results confirmed the significant advantage of the proposed algorithm over the aforementioned methods. Finally, we compared the second algorithm with the first one in terms of distribution, generation rate, data delivery delay, and energy harvesting. The results confirmed that the second algorithm was more reliable and cost-efficient than the first algorithm in the aforementioned criteria.
