Abstract |
An improved timing and carrier frequency synchronization scheme for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems based on matched filtering approach is discussed. This paper extends the work presented in [1] through incorporation of carrier frequency synchronization. The estimation variance is greatly minimized by utilizing matched filtering for training symbol based timing synchronization. Once it is established that timing synchronization achieves performance improvements in [1], the carrier frequency offset is estimated and compensated to achieve carrier frequency synchronization in addition to timing synchronization at the receiver. The overall performance of the scheme is satisfactory in dispersive channels as compared to other methods. The evaluation of bit error rate performance of the scheme for different channels, through computer simulations emphasizes the improvement obtained. |
