Abstract

There have been a large amount of quality work done in the area ofsentiment analysis for opinion mining for the social media content available in English language, but no such work is reported in the contemporary literature for the Roman Urducontents. Most of the Tweets which have been posted on social media from Pakistan are mixture of English and Roman Urdu. A number of Tweets are made in Roman Urdu and when it comes to sentiment analysis those Tweets are simply ignored; hence putting a question mark on the correctness of the results produced from the selected Tweets. In this paper, we have made an attempt to build a Semantic Lexicon and Roman Urdu Corpus duly tagged for positive and negative sentiments. This can also be used in future for automated Lexicon extension and mining sentiments from the Tweets.
