Evaluation of Hospital Information System of hospitals Affiliated to a University of Medical Sciences in West of Iran

Abstract

Background: The Hospital Information System (HIS) is a Local Access Network (LAN) at hospital which integrated all departments of hospital through optimal sharing of information. Designing and implementing this infrastructure by considering the needs of users, current processes, and organizational structures is particularly important. The customization of HIS based on the needs of subsystem users is critical to success of these systems. Materials and Method: This was applied cross-sectional study. The questionnaire was used for collecting data from clinical and non-clinical departments of hospitals affiliated to Ilam University of Medical Sciences the questionnaire had five-point Likert scale. Using SPSS software, the descriptive statistics was used for analyzing the data. Results: The findings showed that the users¡¯ satisfaction from HIS at Imam Khomeini, Mostafa Khomeini, and Taleghani hospitals was 63.5, 58.83, and 62.27 percent, respectively. The total satisfaction rate for three selected hospitals was 60.95 percent. Conclusion: However, it was concluded that since all selected hospitals had purchased their software packages from one software developer, the users¡¯ satisfaction of various aspects of systems was nearly the same. The most important suggestions to improve systems included: Creating web-based HIS capability, developing multilingual contents for systems, and flexibility of software modules.
