Abstract

Motion estimation (ME) is one of the most computationally complex and time consuming parts in the video encoding system. Many fast algorithm and techniques were proposed to reduce this complexity. Among the techniques, we find the early termination in motion estimation. In this paper, we propose to make more adaptive, the early termination algorithm used in the last JVT codec ME algorithm witch is the EPZS (Enhanced Predictive Zonal Search). In this paper, we propose first to adapt the criterion based on distortion correlation, and second to take advantage of the center distortion correlation. Simulation results show that the proposed approach reduces the encoder time while conserving almost the same quality.
