Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of an I/O Manager working in LAN: TCIOM. TCIOM is constructed as conventional client/server architecture. It consists of two parts: TCIOM Client running on the clients and TCIOM Server working on the server. In Transparence Computing, because the client machines have no local disks, TCIOM provide a virtual block-based storage mechanism which has the operating system and applications which users want to use resided on the server disk space called the virtual disk image, imitating a real hard disk to realize that the OS can boot like that with a local disk. TCIOM Client setups the disk access redirection mechanism, and then sends I/O requests to the server. TCIOM Server receives all the requests from clients, and operates the virtual disk files on the server.
